WORKING IN THE HOUSE OF GOD (3): 4 Proven Ways to Edify Yourself

(Continuing from where we stopped. Read the previous post here)

Edifying Yourself Spiritually as a Worker

Looking at the life of Jesus and learning from Him, we have these few recommendations:

1: Find Time to Study the Scriptures.

We have considered earlier the study life of Jesus. Moreover, the Scripture moveth us in sundry places to do so. Remember: every Scripture passage is inspired by God. All of them are useful for teaching, pointing out errors, correcting people, and training them for a life that has God's approval. They equip God's servants so that they are completely prepared to do good things (2Timothy 3:16-17 (GW)).
As you learn, determine to put it to practice. If you look closely into the perfect law that sets people free, and keep on paying attention to it and do not simply listen and then forget it, but put it into practice---you will be blessed by God in what you do (James 1:25 (GNB)).

2: Find Time to Pray.

Jesus always made out time to pray; you should. That is a very valid way to develop intimacy with GOD. I do not just mean you should attend prayer meetings and pray there; but when you pray, enter into your inner chamber, and having shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly (Matthew 6:6 (WEB)).
Intimacy is only developed in the secret! There are things and expressions you cannot share with your heartthrob in the open; you should know that by now.

3: Take Advantage of GOD’s Constant Presence.

Contrary to what many think or teach, Jesus did not usually get all He needed for the day in the place of secret prayer. He said: “…as I hear, I judge (John 5:30 (KJV))”. Knowing that GOD is with you always, you will do well to recognize His presence and involve Him in your minute-to-minute activities.
Whereas we expect GOD to speak to us in our quiet time, nothing stops Him from speaking to us when we are washing plates. GOD did not stay behind in your closet when you left there, so continue to relate with Him as you go about your earthly business. He is with you even while you sleep. This is not even just a New Testament experience. David said: “when I awake, I am still with thee (Psalm 139:18b (KJV)).”

4: Find Time to Rest.

Whatever grace or anointing you carry is manifested in this physical body; so, resting the body is very essential. By “finding time to rest,” I do not mean the normal sleep that everybody sleeps; you cannot cheat nature on that. I mean finding time to rest in those times when work will be so much that you hardly find time for yourself.
Jesus had to take some nap while they were crossing over a river. At one time, so many people were coming and going that Jesus and the apostles did not even have a chance to eat. Then Jesus said, "Let's go to a place where we can be alone and get some rest (Mark 6:31 (CEV)). You too can find time amidst busy schedule to rest your body.

Conclusion

Really, it pays to serve Jesus – in whatever capacity. So, whatever your task, put yourselves into it, as done for the Lord and not for your masters, for God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister. For this cause… be strong in purpose and unmoved, ever giving yourselves to the work of the Lord, because you are certain that your work is not without effect in the Lord. (Colossians 3:23 (NRSV), Hebrews 6:10 (KJV), 1Corinthians 15:58 (BBE))
The effect of your contributions or service may not be seen or appreciated by men, or even your leaders; but in the Lord, no labour is without effect.
I conclude with these lyrics:
"Faithful to my Lord's commands,
I still would choose the better part;
Serve with careful Martha's hands,
And loving Mary's heart."
- Charles Wesley
“Now that you know this truth, how happy [blessed] you will be if you put it into practice!”
– Jesus Christ (John 13:17 GNB).

Re: New Creation Realities. What Do I Do?

The theme, New Creation Realities , is one of the more popular preaching themes in recent times. Usually, teachers of this theme fall into two categories: One: those who promote our new reality in Christ in such a way that it appears that Sin and Backsliding are no longer things to worry about in this era of Grace. The other: those who, in a bid to counter or correct the perceived errors of the first group, promote the reality and consequences of Sin and Backsliding so much that Grace is only given lip service. There is - or ought to be - a third category. This category, which I consider most important and most relevant for us believers, focus the light on what we ought to do. The first category focuses on what God has done and suggests - intentionally or not - that we have nothing else to do. The second category tries too hard to correct the first, thereby making it look like what Christ did nothing. In the past few years of contact with Christians, I'm willing to bet tha...

How to Land a Good Job Without Experience

Three times every year, tens of thousands of our young people are flushed into the labour market. Majority hope and pray to get a job. However, the supply or manpower is much higher than the demand; as a result, many employers raise the bar unnecessarily high to limit the size of the pool. One common one is Years of Experience. Another one is Age. Only very few firms have a genuine provision for fresh graduates today. We’ll look at Scripture – the story of David – for useful tips on how to land a good job with zero years of experience. Job Vacancy So there was this vacancy in a company called “The Army of Israel.” The job role is simple: kill Goliath. The remuneration: you’ll marry the king’s daughter and everyone in your family will never have to pay tax. (Sounds to me like a very good retirement package). David the Shepherd Boy Once upon a time, there was war in Israel. David’s elder brothers were part of Israel’s army. One day, David, at the instruction of his dad, went...

How (Not) To Discover Your Purpose In Life

“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.” - Ecclesiastes 1:9 When you’ve been around as long as I have, you can look back over your life and note the events that changed your perspective and influenced how things turned out for you. They’re called turning points. They’re few and far between, and with good reason. Too many and your life would be one big chaotic mess. Of maybe five or six major turning points that truly influenced the outcome for me, one stands apart. And I’m going to share it with you because it just might make a real difference for you, as it did for me. I’m not exactly a bible scholar, but I do have a thing for the simple poetic wisdom of the Book of Ecclesiastes. I actually have my own versions of some of its key messages that I recite from time to time, including this one: The longer you live and the wiser you become, the more you’ll realize how littl...
