LOOK AT THE FARMERS: 7 Crucial Lessons From Them

As knowledge increases by the day, men keep finding ways to neutralize the effect(s) of known natural laws, thus wielding more control over nature. However, there is one law that, in the wisdom of GOD, will never be overridden. That is the Law of the Farm. “While the earth remains, seed-time and harvest… shall not cease.” (Gen. 8:23)
Seeing that there is a law which cannot be overridden by man, James by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, wrote: “…look at the farmers…” (5:7 ERV) In this treatise, we will do just that – we will look at the farmers, what they do, how they do it, and even the whole business of farming. Hopefully, we will draw some timeless lessons from what we will see as the Holy Spirit opens our eyes.

1. Farmers Understand That Life Is A Process Which Cannot Be Cut Short

Farmers are not students. Students can afford to delay studying till a few days to the examinations when they will “cram and pour;” but cramming only works in the school, not in the farm! Tilling of ground, seed-sowing, watering, weeding, thinning, waiting, and reaping; all these are processes none of which must be skipped or deferred if a good harvest is desired.

2. Farmers Do Their Part.

Farmers do not roam about the streets hoping that the farm will take care of itself. They are not gamblers who depend on luck; they work for the result(s) they hope to achieve.

3. Farmers Expect God To Do His Part

Farmers are men of faith! Having worked, they expect GOD to send the right amount of rain and sunshine needed for bountiful yield. Having planed and watered, they expect the LORD to make the plant to grow.

4. Farmers Are Patient

Faith that is firm is also patient (Isa. 28:16 GNB). Patience is perhaps the most-striking quality of farmers. No wonder James tells us to “be patient until the Lord comes again. See how farmers wait for their precious crops to grow. They wait patiently for fall and spring rains. You, too, must be patient. Don't give up hope. The Lord will soon be here.” – James 5:7-8 GW.

5. Farmers Nurture Their Plants

Much is being said on Seed-Sowing in our time. Sadly, nurturing of plants is very little emphasized. Real farmers do not plant seeds and run away; they nurture the seed till it becomes ready for harvest.

6. Farmers Understand Time

There is time for everything. Successful farmers always do things – tilling, planting, weeding, thinning, harvesting – at the right time. They do hurry or delay processes unnecessarily. James wrote, “Endure until your testing is over. Then you will be mature and complete, and you won't need [lack] anything.” – James 1:4 GW.

7. Farmers Celebrate Wisely

Farmers who follow the above rules diligently enjoy a rich harvest, so they rightfully enjoy the fruit of their labor. However, they are careful not to eat their seed. They know that part of the harvest is for cultivation next farming season, so they discipline their appetite. Farmers who eat up their seed will have nothing to plant in the next season.
“Now that you know this truth, how happy [blessed] you will be if you put it into practice!”
– Jesus Christ (John 13:17 GNB).

Re: New Creation Realities. What Do I Do?

The theme, New Creation Realities , is one of the more popular preaching themes in recent times. Usually, teachers of this theme fall into two categories: One: those who promote our new reality in Christ in such a way that it appears that Sin and Backsliding are no longer things to worry about in this era of Grace. The other: those who, in a bid to counter or correct the perceived errors of the first group, promote the reality and consequences of Sin and Backsliding so much that Grace is only given lip service. There is - or ought to be - a third category. This category, which I consider most important and most relevant for us believers, focus the light on what we ought to do. The first category focuses on what God has done and suggests - intentionally or not - that we have nothing else to do. The second category tries too hard to correct the first, thereby making it look like what Christ did nothing. In the past few years of contact with Christians, I'm willing to bet tha...

How to Land a Good Job Without Experience

Three times every year, tens of thousands of our young people are flushed into the labour market. Majority hope and pray to get a job. However, the supply or manpower is much higher than the demand; as a result, many employers raise the bar unnecessarily high to limit the size of the pool. One common one is Years of Experience. Another one is Age. Only very few firms have a genuine provision for fresh graduates today. We’ll look at Scripture – the story of David – for useful tips on how to land a good job with zero years of experience. Job Vacancy So there was this vacancy in a company called “The Army of Israel.” The job role is simple: kill Goliath. The remuneration: you’ll marry the king’s daughter and everyone in your family will never have to pay tax. (Sounds to me like a very good retirement package). David the Shepherd Boy Once upon a time, there was war in Israel. David’s elder brothers were part of Israel’s army. One day, David, at the instruction of his dad, went...

How (Not) To Discover Your Purpose In Life

“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.” - Ecclesiastes 1:9 When you’ve been around as long as I have, you can look back over your life and note the events that changed your perspective and influenced how things turned out for you. They’re called turning points. They’re few and far between, and with good reason. Too many and your life would be one big chaotic mess. Of maybe five or six major turning points that truly influenced the outcome for me, one stands apart. And I’m going to share it with you because it just might make a real difference for you, as it did for me. I’m not exactly a bible scholar, but I do have a thing for the simple poetic wisdom of the Book of Ecclesiastes. I actually have my own versions of some of its key messages that I recite from time to time, including this one: The longer you live and the wiser you become, the more you’ll realize how littl...
