Thoughts on Generational Curses and Faulty Foundation Issues

I’ve been going through the Book of Genealogies (Genesis) lately. Soon I perceived the need to share some concerns about the whole issue and teachings on Generational Transfer (Transmission, if you like) of Curses and/or Problems.
Let me for now agree with findings from natural science that traits can be transferred from parent to offspring – plants and animals alike. After all, this knowledge has been successfully utilized in agriculture and even among humans.
Today, we are taught to deal with our “Faulty Foundations.” This ‘dealing’ usually involves series of prayer sessions and vigils; sometimes contracting – yes, contracting – a man of God or a prayer team for family liberation: cutting down evil trees, digging out old juju, announcing some people (usually the old women) as the hands holding the family successes etc.
Afterwards the testimonies start rolling in: the ladies in the family who are past the marriage age start getting married, the men in business start to buy cars and build mansions … Testimonies!
Looking closely into the scripture, we find a slightly different pattern. Whereas people inherit and suffer the sins of their fathers, we will see also that at any point in the lineage, somebody will rise up and change the story – not so much by destroying the deeds of the fathers, like we’re taught to do today; but by doing a new deed (permit the English) that redirects the whole lineage unto a new path.
A few examples: today we celebrate the tribe of Judah; but many of us do not know that the first son of Judah, Er, was so wicked that the Lord killed him! (Gen. 38:7). It took a man like David (ten generations later) to set that lineage again on the right path – holding the throne till Shiloh comes. Today again, we talk about the tribe of Levi and their special place in Israel in scripture; but many of us will not remember how Levi, with Simeon his brother, murdered all the men of Canaan while they were recovering from circumcision (Genesis 34:25-31).
The common thing about all these people was that they changed the course of their lineage, not by destroying the evils works of the fathers, but by doing deeds great enough for God to change their family story for good. It reminds me of Esther and Mordecai: they did not waste time destroying or nullifying the decree of Haman against the Jews; they SIMPLY wrote their own decree to empower the Jews to defend themselves (Esther 8:5-14).
We must arise and take charge of our lives. Even science has a name for it: mutation! We can break out of any yoke we find ourselves in. Blaming our fathers for the ills we suffer does us no good; in fact, it is the height of irresponsibility! We can change our story for good – trust me. If we have received Jesus into our lives, then we are born of God. And everyone born of God overcomes the world (1John 5:4).
I conclude with this beautiful promise from our God: “I, the LORD your God, am a God who does not tolerate rivals. I punish children for their parents' sins to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me. BUT I show mercy to thousands of generations of those who love me and obey my commandments. (Exodus 20:5-6 GW).
Now that you know this truth, how happy you will be if you put it into practice!
– John 13:17 GNB

Re: New Creation Realities. What Do I Do?

The theme, New Creation Realities , is one of the more popular preaching themes in recent times. Usually, teachers of this theme fall into two categories: One: those who promote our new reality in Christ in such a way that it appears that Sin and Backsliding are no longer things to worry about in this era of Grace. The other: those who, in a bid to counter or correct the perceived errors of the first group, promote the reality and consequences of Sin and Backsliding so much that Grace is only given lip service. There is - or ought to be - a third category. This category, which I consider most important and most relevant for us believers, focus the light on what we ought to do. The first category focuses on what God has done and suggests - intentionally or not - that we have nothing else to do. The second category tries too hard to correct the first, thereby making it look like what Christ did nothing. In the past few years of contact with Christians, I'm willing to bet tha...

How to Land a Good Job Without Experience

Three times every year, tens of thousands of our young people are flushed into the labour market. Majority hope and pray to get a job. However, the supply or manpower is much higher than the demand; as a result, many employers raise the bar unnecessarily high to limit the size of the pool. One common one is Years of Experience. Another one is Age. Only very few firms have a genuine provision for fresh graduates today. We’ll look at Scripture – the story of David – for useful tips on how to land a good job with zero years of experience. Job Vacancy So there was this vacancy in a company called “The Army of Israel.” The job role is simple: kill Goliath. The remuneration: you’ll marry the king’s daughter and everyone in your family will never have to pay tax. (Sounds to me like a very good retirement package). David the Shepherd Boy Once upon a time, there was war in Israel. David’s elder brothers were part of Israel’s army. One day, David, at the instruction of his dad, went...

How (Not) To Discover Your Purpose In Life

“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.” - Ecclesiastes 1:9 When you’ve been around as long as I have, you can look back over your life and note the events that changed your perspective and influenced how things turned out for you. They’re called turning points. They’re few and far between, and with good reason. Too many and your life would be one big chaotic mess. Of maybe five or six major turning points that truly influenced the outcome for me, one stands apart. And I’m going to share it with you because it just might make a real difference for you, as it did for me. I’m not exactly a bible scholar, but I do have a thing for the simple poetic wisdom of the Book of Ecclesiastes. I actually have my own versions of some of its key messages that I recite from time to time, including this one: The longer you live and the wiser you become, the more you’ll realize how littl...
