When Good Girls Make Bad Choices

We’ve been very reluctant to write on issues concerning relationships and marital choices seeing that Facebook is awash with several “counsels” on those topics. However, we have become persuaded that the position of the Ancient Word (the Bible) on these issues has to be made public to he help us get it right, not having to learn from our (bitter) experiences. Abigail Our focus today will be on Abigail. The Bible describes her as “…beautiful and intelligent; a woman of good sense and pleasing looks (1Sam.25:3 GNB, BBE)”. However she got married to a man who, as Matthew Henry Bible Commentary described him, “…had no honour or honesty; [he] was churlish, cross, and ill-humoured; evil in his doings, hard and oppressive; a man that cared not what fraud and violence he used in getting and saving”. Even his servants described him as “…such a good-for-nothing person that it is not possible to say anything to him (vs.17b BBE)”. The only good report about the man was that he was very great ...

Hebrews 12 Revisited: 17 Key Points Worth Noting

Hebrews Chapter 12 is pretty popular among Christians today, at least the first two verses. However, reading through the entire chapter recently made me realize that God is very serious about His expectations from us as those called by His Name. I was almost hearing the passage audibly, as if it’s being read to me; and, of course, I was trembling! You see, in a bid to win souls and to make God more attractive to unbelievers, we have expounded the Goodness of God so much that it has almost put out of view the Severity of God. Sadly, many of us are not even aware of the scriptural injunction to “…consider the goodness AND severity of God (Rom.11:22a NKJV).” In this piece, I will attempt to crystallize out the salient points of those twenty-nine (29) verses contained therein. What I’ll put up here is, of course, not exhaustive; so feel free to add more in the Comments. Read the passage again and share with brethren what other things you learnt. Point 1 ...

FATHER-FIGURE (1): Becoming the Best of Parents to your Child

The Bible tells us, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it (Prov. 22:6 ESV).” THE BIG QUESTION: How do we as parents or guardians know the “way” the child under us should go? Unfortunately, the breakdown of our society today, which can be traced down to the breakdown of the family, is largely as a result of our inability to address the above question properly. The usual approach, especially in this part of the world, is to make as much money as possible to keep the child as comfortable as possible; push the child into school as soon as possible; hurry him/her through Primary and Secondary School as quickly as the system allows, sponsoring cheating if need be, and jumping classes along the line; get him/her into the university to study whatever pleases you, not necessarily the child; help him/her (if you can) land a plum job; and then sit back to enjoy the fruits of your labour. All these we do leaving out the key component of our ...
